Prior to the border gradually reopening next year,  Immigration New Zealand  (INZ) will commence processing all offshore resident applications. Most visa applications were delayed offshore as a result of border limitations established last year as a result of COVID-19. Nevertheless, a court recently ruled that offshore residency applications received before the March 2020 border closure would be processed. Around 2,300 applications for residence in all categories that were received prior to the border shutdown are still pending. The government has finally agreed to lift the ban on first-time resident visa holders given an offshore resident visa from visiting New Zealand. Nicola Hogg, INZ General Manager, Border and Visa Operations, said the judgement means fresh offshore residence applications can now be processed.
