Canada is transitioning to online LMIA applications

As of April 2023, Canada's economic recovery has been challenged by critical labor shortages in various sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, hospitality, and transportation. What is the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP)

The Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) is a program used by Canadian employers intended to hire foreign skilled / trained workers when Canadian Employers are facing short-term skills and labor shortages, (between 18 months to 3 years) and only when no Canadians and permanent residents are available.

  • Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), Permit employers in seven sectors with demonstrated labor shortages (such as accommodation and food services, construction, food manufacturing, agriculture, and health care) to hire up to 30 percent of their workforce through the TFWP for low-wage positions;

  • Under TFWP, the Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIA) validity period at up to 18 months; and, 
  • Maintaining the maximum duration of employment for low-wage positions at up to two years.
