Be worthy of sponsorship

If you are a relative of the visa applicant, you may sponsor them.

· Either the visa applicant is classified as a member of the family unit of someone who is also applying and you are related to that person, or you are a relative of someone who is classified as a member of that person's family unit and that person is also applying.

·         You have to be one of the following to be considered a relative:

§  spouse,

§  parent,

§  child,

§  grandparent,

§  sister,

§  aunt,

§  uncle,

§  niece,

§ Nephew, or

§   equivalent of the aforementioned.

A sponsor is not permitted to sponsor

·         to be an in-law,

·         fiancé, or fiancé.

·         friend;

·         cousin;

·         citizen of New Zealand.

For instance:
• You may sponsor both your parents and your sister at the same time if applications have been submitted by both of them.
• You have the option to sponsor your brother-in-law if he has applied with the help of his daughter, your niece.
• You can also sponsor your uncle's daughter if he and his daughter (your cousin) have applied.

A sponsor may also be:

A security bond must be paid

If we want a security bond, you have to be able to pay it.

Limitations on sponsorship

If you have previously sponsored a candidate for a subclass 600 visa that was approved and the visa has not expired, you are not eligible to sponsor another applicant for a visa. If the visa applicant is one of the following: o A member of the prior applicant's family unit, and

·         have the same purpose as the prior applicant and are visiting Australia;

·          the visa has expired;

·         the prior applicant failed to adhere to a provision of the visa; and

·          five years have not passed since it was granted. If the prior applicant failed to comply with requirement 8531 (must not remain in Australia beyond the visa duration) because of events beyond their control, you can sponsor that visa application. How long sponsorship lasts

Sponsorship lasts as long as the visitor visa.

Your responsibilities

·         It is your duty as a sponsor to make sure the visitor complies with the requirements of their visa.

·         You reimburse the Australian government for any money your visitor owes it.

·         We may revoke the visa if you fail to fulfil your sponsoring requirements.

·         After the visa has been approved

·         You may request the revocation of your sponsorship as soon as we grant the visa.
