Australia PR Visa process from the USA

Mentioned below are the general steps involved in applying for an Australia PR Visa   from the USA:

Step 1: Check your Eligibility:

  • Points Test:  It is a must that an applicant who wishes to get a PR in Australia must clear the 65 points criteria to be eligible to apply and these points are based on factors like age, education, work experience, English language proficiency, etc.

Proficiency in English: An applicant who is a citizen of the USA, Canada, UK etc the English-speaking region doesn’t need to appear for the English Proficiency Exam.

  • Occupation In Demand – Check whether your occupation is in demand in one of the skilled occupation lists whether the occupation is included on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) or the Regional Occupation List (ROL).
  • Choosing the Right Visa Category:
  • Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189): This category is for qualified skilled workers who do not need an employer or family sponsor. And, they can permanently live and work anywhere in Australia.
  •  Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190):  This visa subclass requires nomination by an Australian state or territory government. It also gives you the right to live and work permanently in Australia.
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa: This is a temporary visa that requires nomination by a state or territory government or sponsorship by an eligible family member living in a specified regional area.

Step 2: Skill Assessment:
A skill assessment is a must to prove that your occupation is relevant to your education and for the Australia PR process it is a must that you have a positive skill assessment from the relevant Australian authority for your occupation.  The evaluation of skills is done concerning an applicant’s qualification which has to be in league with his work experience and should be on par with Australian standards.

Step 3: Submit your Expression of Interest.

If an applicant is applying for a PR visa in Australia then he or she needs to submit the EOI through the SkillSelect system. An applicant receives an Invitation to apply for the visa once they fulfil the point score requirements and other necessary documentation.

Step 4:  Invitation to Apply

  • If your EOI is successful, you will be invited to submit a visa application. There is a time limit of 60 days, after being invited, to put in the visa application.

Step 5: Get the Documents Together and Apply for the Visa

  • Identity papers: passport, birth certificate, or other forms of required identification.
  • Results of the Skills Assessment: By the related Australian body.
  • Test Results for English Language: Verify test results for these, ensuring that they are valid and at the required scores.
  • Work Experience Papers: Supply the history of your work experience using letters from employers, payslips, and tax returns.
  • Health and Character Assessment: Applicants undergo health assessment and police certificates.

Step 6: Health and Character Checks

Get all the necessary health checks done and obtain police clearance certificates to prove that you are of good character.

Step 7: Be Patient as Your Application is processed

The waiting period varies depending on your visa category and the complexity of your circumstances. You may be asked to submit additional information or documents within this time.

Step 8: The Visa is Granted

If your application gets selected, you will be issued a visa grant notice. It will have the details of your visa and the date before which you enter Australia to complete your Australia PR status.

Step 9: Move to Australia

After getting your visa granted, you are eligible to move to Australia. Make sure that you enter before the initial entry date mentioned in your visa grant.

Further Considerations:

  • Consultation with the best Australia PR Consultants: You may want to consult the best Australia Immigration consultant for advice on your situation, in particular, if your case is complex.
  • State Nomination: Depending on whether the subclass of your visa is 190 or 491, requirements will vary from state to state or territory, so do your research on those.
  •

It can take many months to over a year, depending upon the subclass of your visa, how correct your application is, and the processing times of the Department of Home Affairs.
